We are a small, friendly club, open to all. New members   are always welcome and you can come along and learn more about the club any Wednesday / Saturday from 1pm and Sunday 10am to 12pm. No experience necessary and we will provide all the equipment you need. Bowls keeps you active and healthy and even if you don't bowl you will enjoy our regular social gatherings. And, yes, we have a bar!

 BOWLING IN FRIARY PARK

The Club has a single basic type of playing membership – a “ full member” plus “junior membership” for those under 18.

Annual subscriptions are for  the year commencing 1st May:

- for full members £170 each, with reduced rates for those aged 18- under 30   ( at 1st May)- £100 each

- for junior members £50 each.

In addition to the subscription a fee of £2 is payable for each session played ( except for most competitions and the Club Championship)

Entry fees may be payable for some events.

You do not need to know, or to be proposed by, an existing member to apply to join us.

We encourage prospective members to come and meet us and to try out the game on our green for a few free sessions.

Pay as you play

We welcome casual visitors to play when the bowling green is open and has spare capacity ( at the discretion of the Club) and the fee is £5 per person per session. This is not available “out of hours”.

Kit and Club Bowls

You must wear flat soled shoes when on the bowling green. Because of the risk of infecting our green with fungus, etc from elsewhere, it is important that you keep a separate pair of shoes to wear on the green (and nowhere else). Members can keep their shoes in their locker at the clubhouse.

Our “dress code” is relaxed and informal – although for some matches and competitions players are expected to wear white or grey flannels.

Club bowls (“woods” - originally made from lignum vitae, a dense wood giving rise to the term "woods" for bowls, but  now commonly made of a hard plastic composite material) are available for loan to  visitors and new members and for purchase by members ( subject to availability).

Extracts from Club Constitution – “open to all”

We are a community club and membership is open to all, subject to our Constitution, which states:

“a)       Membership of the Club shall be open to anyone interested in the sport of outdoor flat green bowls on application regardless of sex, age, disability, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion or other beliefs. Membership may however be limited according to available facilities on a non-discriminatory basis.

(b)     Membership subscriptions will be kept at levels that will not pose a significant obstacle to people participating.

 (c)       The Club Committee may refuse membership or, subject to [the disciplinary provisions of the] constitution, remove it, only for good cause such as conduct likely to bring the Club or sport into disrepute. Appeal against refusal or removal may be made to the members.”
